Uta Weyand

German born pianist Uta Weyand was a master student of Elza Kolodin, Vitaly Margulis, Leon Fleisher and Joaquín Soriano. The Post and Courier (South Carolina, USA) forecasted her musical career, stating  “Weyand demonstrates genius at the piano…she is a pianist of genius, who should have a long career.“ And the Nuremberg News confirms “…especially admirable is her amazing art to have the great Steinway sing and wrest many captivating colors from it.“

Uta Weyand gave numerous solo recitals and concerts with orchestras in Europe, Southamerica and USA with conductors such as Jesús López Cobos, José Ramón Encinar, Enrique García Asensio, Manuel Galduf, Marc Tardue, Daniel Raiskin and Yves Abel.

 In 1996 Uta Weyand won first prize at the José Iturbi International Piano Competition in Valencia with special prizes for the best interpretation of Spanish and contemporary music. Since then, her repertoire has encompassed all musical epochs and she is a passionate interpreter of the Spanish piano repertoire. She dedicates herself to unknown or neglected piano works and has worked closely with Michael Braunfels and Xavier Montsalvatge. Her recordings for Hänssler Classics, Profil Medien and ARS Produktion received rave reviews.

She gives numerous masterclasses and conferences in Europe, Brazil, Cuba, Asia and USA. In 2000 she joined the faculty of the Conservatori Superior de Música de Castelló and from 2002 until 2011 she was a faculty member at the Madrid Royal Conservatory. In 2007 Uta Weyand moved to Fulda, Germany, where she founded PIANALE International Academy & Competition as well as the annual PIANALE Piano Festival, which provides young musicians with a high-standard performance platform and is one of the most unique Piano Festivals of the world.

 Uta Weyand  is regularly jury member of international piano competitions including the Gina Bachauer in Salt Lake City, Franz Liszt in Weimar, Hamamatsu in Japan, Van Cliburn in Texas, Grieg Competition in Bergen and The Sydney in Australia among others.
