Florian Hölscher
Florian Hölscher studied with Robert Levin, Michel Béroff and Pierre-Laurent Aimard in Freiburg, Paris and Cologne. He also received decisive impulses from the conductor Peter Eötvös. He performs internationally with works from the 17th-21st centuries, focusing on Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Schumann and Debussy. He is particularly passionate about premiering new works.
For many years, he has worked closely with contemporary composers, in particular Marco Stroppa, Alberto Posadas and Jonathan Harvey.
As a soloist, he has worked with conductors such as Peter Eötvös, Christopher Hogwood, David Zinman, Francois-Xavier Roth, Kent Nagano and Sylvain Cambreling as well as with orchestras such as the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and the Stuttgart State Opera Orchestra. chamber music partners include Pirmin Grehl, Jean-Guihen Queyras and Chen Halevi.
He has performed solo programs at festivals such as Présences (Radio France, Paris), Eclat Stuttgart, Agora (IRCAM, Paris), the Bartók Festival Szombathély, the Salzburg Festival, the Heidelberger Frühling, the Lucerne Festival, the Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, the Tonhalle Zurich and the Kunstfestspiele Hannover-Herrenhausen.
Between 2015 and 2018, Alberto Posadas wrote the 80-minute solo cycle “Erinnerungsspuren” for him, which was performed at WDR Cologne, the Luxembourg Philharmonie and the “Wien Modern” festival at the Konzerthaus, among others. 2024 he performed the premiere of Posadas' “Königsberg Piano Concerto” in Madrid with the Orquesta National de España.
In 2025, Florian Hölscher will perform as a soloist with the SWR Symphony Orchestra in Stuttgart and at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg as well as with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich.
The pianist has an extensive discography. His recordings have received numerous awards, including the Diapason d'Or. A CD recording of piano sonatas by Joseph Haydn will be released in 2025.
Florian Hölscher has been Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts since 2008. He was appointed piano professor at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts in 2018. Students in his class have won prizes at international competitions and hold positions at international universities.
